To enable stress-free strolling and shopping in the run-up to Christmas, there will again be driving bans on Innere Mariahilfer Straße and Neubaugasse on shopping Saturdays in the pre-Christmas period.
Christmas sales are expected to rise slightly this year
The traffic restrictions apply on shopping Saturdays on November 29, December 6, December 13, and December 20, as well as on December 8. The section of Innere Mariahilfer Straße between Getreidemarkt/Museumsplatz and Stumpergasse/Kaiserstraße, as well as the section of Neubaugasse up to Westbahnstraße, will be closed to traffic, including bicycles and e-scooters. Shared spaces, loading zones, and residential streets will be suspended during this time.
Relaxed shopping on shopping Saturdays with public transport
It is recommended to switch to public transport. The only way to cross Innere Mariahilfer Straße is via Stumpergasse – Kaiserstraße. Drivers should avoid this area, and access to parking garages is marked. Wiener Linien offers a quick, comfortable, and environmentally friendly way to get to the Christmas shopping experience on Innere Mariahilfer Straße and Neubaugasse. You can take the U3 at the Zieglergasse or Neubaugasse stations or the U6 at Westbahnhof. On the days mentioned, bus line 13A will run on a shortened route from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m.
One-way traffic regulations suspended on shopping Saturdays
On shopping Saturdays, the following one-way streets will also be suspended or become dead ends:
- Andreasgasse between ONr. 6 (Garage Andreaspark) and Lindengasse
- Zieglergasse between Mariahilfer Straße and ONr. 3/4
- Schottenfeldgasse between Apollogasse and Mariahilfer Straße
- Webgasse between Mariahilfer Straße and Schmalzhofgasse
- Mondscheingasse between Neubaugasse and Zollergasse
- Lindengasse between Zieglergasse and Andreasgasse
- Lindengasse between Andlergasse and Neubaugasse
- Andreasgasse between Lindengasse and Richtergasse
- Andreasgasse between ONr. 6 (Andreaspark garage) and Mariahilfer Straße (ending at Mariahilfer Straße)
The operators of the parking garages will mark the entrances in the vicinity of Innere Mariahilfer Straße and Neubaugasse with appropriate signs and directional information.
No stopping and no parking restrictions on shopping Saturdays
No stopping and no parking restrictions are clearly marked on site. Temporary traffic signs and physical barriers mark all measures. The start of the traffic restrictions will be announced the day before by additional signs. Officials from the Vienna State Police Headquarters will also be on site to monitor the measures.
